This was a gnote posted on the Announce gboard on port 1801. It was addressed to all and expires on Thu Aug 7 15:53:09 2014
So a quick post to let you all know what is currently going on. Zeno
has created a unique code to go with the MUD to allow me to add "rarity" to
items as previously discussed. This is great because it allows me to do a
lot more than I had originally hoped for. Initially, I had to settle with
"make belief" rarity tags to distinguish items. However, with a solid
code, I can take it one step further and create custom programs that will
allow me to do things such as: Modify items, Modify rarity of items, etc.
This means you will be seeing NPCs in the future that will be able to alter
your items to greater heights. Unfortunately, it will not allow me to
enable NPCs to rename items, etc.
However, I`ve been thinking of a work-around in regards to this. Zeno`s
new "point system" may be a viable way to add vanity changes such as
weapon/armor renames. Giving you more control over your character
customization. Now, don`t quote me on it and set it in stone, just yet.
It is only an idea. But that is where my brain is at right now. So, work
wise. Where am I, then?
I am currently finishing up extensive helpfiles that explain (to our
current and future builders), how the new rarity system works and how they
can go about creating items. This rarity business changes how the MUD
works entirely, so I have to chronicle things to the best of my ability so
that mistakes are few to none in the future. From there, I am going to
start re-editing existing items to reflect these new changes that have been
implemented.
Some of the things you`ll see in the coming weeks are: Item Rarity (items
will have unique flags portraying their rarity), different stat values on
ALL items, a more balanced experience when it comes to combat and the flow
of combat.
After that, I will be working on the forging and reforging (Smithing) NPCs
that will be able to add new affects and improve your item`s quality. The
details of this are still obscured, but I get the feeling that it will be
as good as it sounds. This new rarity system opens many doors. Not just
for me and my building staff, but for Zeno`s future code work such as the
pending Blacksmith class which will be able to forge weapond and armor!
Much to look forward to, my friends. But even more work lays out in front
of us. I ask for your patience and support while we deliver these changes
to you as fast as we can. Until then! Happy MUDing!
