Read help junk. You have to type out the full item name.

Hmm. The help file says "You must type out all or most of the item name", but that doesn't seem to be correct either. Witness:

get ring
You get Taigar's Ring.

junk ring
You junk Taigar's Ring.

Indeed. That would be considered the full item name. Items are gotten by keywords, not short desc. As long as you fully type out any keyword, that is the full word.

you could have 'get r' but 'junk r' wouldn't work.

right because you could have more then one item with the first letter as r
and if the ring was at the bottom of your inv list then you would junk all that started with r

Junk requires the full item name, simple as that. Other commands do not.
