Hey Zeno, I'd like to suggest that perhaps it should be considered, rather than concentrating on endurance or blocking, that when players take damage they gain the chance of increasing the endurance stat. In this way I think endurance will finally see, to a greater extent, it's role in the early low level game that many players never make it out of. Just looking back to my early days I remember playing as a human villager and spent weeks in Forbidden forest trying to scrounge up enough experience points from lesser youkai to hope to tackle something with a little more experience and a hell of lot stronger attacks. It's always been a problem, and this is the easy out. Whether you're fighting for stats, experience, gold, or rewards - you're always going to gain from taking damage.
However I haven't put any thought into how the stats come about - whether it's from the amount of damage you take, or the number of times you're damaged, I have no opinion on the matter.
