World of Warcraft, if you don't know, is Blizzards' MMORPG, based on Warcaft. It is due to come out late this month, but I am already beta testing for it. It's pretty neat, a lot more action than any other MMORPG out there. Here are some screenshots of me in action.

Was quite fun downloading WoW, which was 3gigs, in 2 hours. Extracting it from the zip almost took longer.

The two offical WoW websites are:

You had to be a closed beta tester to get it, but then they opened it to everyone for download for one day. Then they closed it.

Quote:
The overwhelming demand for the World of Warcraft open beta test has resulted in hundreds of thousands of successful signups. We have already reached our target number of testers and therefore must regrettably close our account creation pages. We'd like to thank everyone for showing such interest in joining the World of Warcraft open beta test and would like to reiterate our appreciation of your continued patience during our website outage. Please note that we will continue to analyze server population, and should there be more space for testers prior to the game's launch on November 23, we will re-open the signup pages.

It's out, and it looks pretty damn good.

Yeah. I may buy it anyways. I enjoy how you can play in Windowed mode. Then I can play WoW and code some stuff for the MUD at the same time.

Oh and beta has been long over, and I am into playing it normally now. Whee. Right now:

Level 7 Tauren Warrior, on the Shadowsong server, my character name is, of course, Zeno.

I plan on being an Elven Hunter :)

Question: Does WOW -require- a 3d card, or is it just recommended?

Requires it most likely. It is a 3D game after all.

Well, so is Counterstrike, but it doesn't _require_ a 3d card.

May not necessarily require one, but your graphics will look like shite without it. If you get graphics at all. And then it'd just be an overpriced MUD.

But wait...we have one of those. And this one we don't have to pay for...so...hm...

:D

Seriously:

WoW FAQ wrote:
Does the game require a 3D accelerator?
Yes, the game will require a 3D graphics card. Again, we will support a wide range of 3D cards.

What are the game's system requirements?
We have not yet finalized the system requirements for World of Warcraft. As with our past games, our goal is to ensure that the game will run on a wide variety of 3D cards and at a wide range of processor speeds.

Been playing on Kirin To (RP Server) for some days now. Have 3 80's. Working on my 4th. I am finding myself growing tired of the repetition, and the way the game progresses, but I still have my fun every now and then with it. With Wrath of the Lich King coming to a close, I am looking forward to Cataclysm now. However, I am not sure if Cataclysm will keep my attention for a long period of time, with the coming of Final Fantasy 14 which Zeno and I will be getting.

Some of the upcoming changes do sound appealing. But the game has lost a lot of complexity, which irks me a lot. For those familiar with the game; Defense Cap (which is to prevent crits on you at endgame) is being removed and replaced for talents which will make it so you cannot be crit. Spellpower as a stat will no longer exist, and will be coexisting with Intellect/Spirit (unsure). All these things which basically add a certain level of complexity and fun to the game are being taken away.

It will make the game more newbie friendly... but... we'll see. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, or Final Fantasy 14? Which will get my month's worth of money?!
